Heritage Baptist Church

Priscilla Jane Owens was born in 1829 and was a teacher for 49 years. She knew her bible, so, like a tapestry she weaved scripture into a magnificent hymn “We Have an Anchor That Keeps the Soul” which begins each stanza with a question. Will your anchor hold in the straits of fear, when the breakers roar, and the reef is near? While the surges rage, and the wild winds blow, shall the angry waves then your bark overflow? The answer is given in the refrain. We have an anchor that keeps the soul steadfast and sure while the billows roll, fastened to the Rock which cannot move, grounded firm and deep in the Savior’s love. Hebrews 6:19 clearly speaks of an eternal Anchor. Consequently, the anchor came to symbolize Christ and became a very compelling symbol in life and death, in persecution and in tribulation. The anchor, Christ—holds firm. He is an anchor for your storm-tossed soul in the strong crosscurrents of our modern life. Heritage Baptist meets at La Estacion, above Pancho’s Deli, Riberas del Pilar. Sundays at 11 a.m.. Cell: 331-437-7281 or 333-016-3743. Email: This email address is being protected from spambots. Unitarian Universalist Fellowship

Sunday, May 5, Rev. Matt Aslpaugh will speak on “A Sense of Place.”

There is a sense of rootedness, a sense of place, the interdependence we have with the people and things that are local, directly around us. Yet we live in a global world, easily connecting us with people and things far away. How does this sort of rootedness relate to our global world, and all the choices that globalization brings us? Further, most of us in this congregation are migrants, scatterlings, here by choice. Consequently our relationship with this chosen place is different. We may even be seen as ‘strangers in a strange land’. Can we establish a sense of place in a new place?

Next Sunday, May 12, Richard Clarke will present “Embracing Oneness: Exploring Universalism and Unitarianism through the Eyes of Ramana Maharshi.”

Sunday service is  at  noon, at the Lake Chapala Unitarian Universalist Fellowship’s new location at San Luis 19 in Riberas del Pilar (one block south of the previous address).

Lakeside Presbyterian Church

Pastor Wayne will talk about “From the earliest times, believers have affirmed that Jesus is God.”

We speak of God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. There is only one God, but Christians from very early times have referred to the three person of the Trinity (Tri-unity or three-in-one).

Now if that sounds confusing, join the club. None of us completely understand it, but the Bible declares it and we affirm it. We use Jesus’ descriptions to provide some insight. For example, he calls himself the Son of God. I have three sons and I can understand that analogy. When others referred to Jesus as the anointed one of God, he confirmed that he was indeed the Christ. If there is any doubt left, Jesus made it very plain here. He said, “Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father.”

The English-language service is at 9:30 a.m., which also streams live at facebook.com/LPCChapala.

Everyone is welcome to Wednesday drop-in Bible study.

If you need a ride, or more information, call  376-106-0853 before 4 p.m. on Thursday.
