Film fans south of the border are eagerly awaiting the debut feature of director Tom Gustafson, “Mariachi Gringo,” which stars Shawn Ashmore (he played Iceman in two X-Men movies), Martha Higareda and Kate Burton.
Shot toward the end of last year in Illinois, Guadalajara and Mexico City, the film is billed as a musical comedy. According to the director, it “follows a small-town mid-western man (Ashmore) as he runs away from his family and journeys to Mexico to follow his dream of being a mariachi.” A release date has not been announced, although organizers of the International Mariachi Festival said excerpts of the movie might be screened this week, and cast members turn up during the event.
