Painter Fernando Garrido believes many “pseudo artists” hide their technical deficiencies behind labels such as “new artistic language” but in truth rely on improvisation.
Garrido’s artistic ability is clear to see in 25 surreal/fantastical works up at Guadalajara’s elegant Vertice Gallery until October 1.
Calling himself “very curious,” Garrido creates striking nebulous worlds, often crowded with undefined, but inherently wise characters, looking hopefully upwards or sideways in a seemingly limitless spacial context.
Born in Mexico City but a resident of Queretero for several years, Garrido studied communication and publicity at the UNAM in the capital and visual arts in Houston, Texas.
