Analco barrio hosts photo exhibit

To get an idea of the horror caused by the April 22, 1992 explosions in Guadalajara, head over to the Centro Cultural Patio Los Angeles (Cuautla and 28 de enero) in the Analco neighborhood of the city, near the old bus station (Central Viejo).

An exhibition up until May 19 showcases the images of Jose Hernandez Claire and Humberto Muñiz, both newspaper photographers who were on the scene moments after 13 kilometers of streets blew up on that fateful morning 20 years ago. Hernandez Claire’s photos were picked up by agencies around the globe and went on to win awards in several countries.

The cultural center sits alongside the Templo de Analco, one of the oldest churches in Guadalajara, and beside a quaint plaza, which is home to a monument honoring the 200-plus people who died in the sewer line blasts.

Entrance to the exhibition is free and staff there are always pleased to greet foreign visitors, especially as the neighborhood is off the main tourist map.
