Expo to host 2nd International Music Fair

For the second year running, the University of Guadalajara has organized the International Music Fair (FIM) to take place at Expo Guadalajara from Thursday, May 31 to Sunday, June 3.

A musical equivalent of the acclaimed International Book Fair (FIL), the FIM will feature concerts, conferences, workshops, showcases and documentaries.

Among the highlights, John Densmore, the drummer of legendary Californian rock group The Doors, will give a talk at the Expo (Friday, June 1, 3 p.m.), discussing his musical philosophy, jazz influences and the creative process in the composition of classics such as “Riders on the Storm” and “L.A. Woman.”

The day before Densmore’s appearance, a documentary on The Doors entitled “Mr. Mojo Risin’: The Story of L.A. Woman” will be screened at the University of Guadalajara’s Cineforo (Av. Juarez 976) at 4 p.m., 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. (45 pesos; 30 for students). “Bob Marley: The Making of a Legend” will be shown at the same venue and times on Saturday, June 2.

Other scheduled events include daily live concerts and DJ sets in venues such as the Teatro Diana, Foro Expo, Foro Cavaret, Old Jack’s, Bar Americas and La Mutualista.

There will also be workshops in music production, new technology, editing software and protection of author’s rights, and conferences on the music industry, music journalism, promotion and management and innovative proposals from independent record labels.

Forty promoters from all over the world are set to attend, as well as 80 artists, half of whom will be local bands. Last year’s event drew 25,000 attendees. General entry will be 30 pesos (20 pesos for students). For more information visit  www.fimguadalajara.mx.
