Students perform on big stage in birthday bash

The Music Department of the Universidad de Guadalajara marks its 60th anniversary with a special concert Sunday kicking off the Jalisco Philharmonic  Orchestra’s summer season of concerts.

Thirteen students have been chosen to play (and sing) a wide range of solo pieces along with the orchestra, under the baton of Jorge Rivero, the musical director of the Camaguey Orchestra of Cuba.

Sunday’s concert will include popular works by Bach, Mozart and Beethoven, among others.

This concert is free of charge, and takes place at the Teatro Degollado on Sunday, June 3, 12:30 p.m.

The six-program JPO summer season runs from Friday, June 8 through July 15, with concerts scheduled on consecutive Fridays and Sundays. Ticket prices have been maintained at a very reasonable 90 to 170 pesos.  A full schedule will be published in next week’s edition.
