US luminary to lead state orchestra in season opener

Patrons attending the opening concerts of the Jalisco Philharmonic Orchestra autumn season next month will get the opportunity to appreciate the skills of one of the United States’ most prominent conductors.

Kenneth Kiesler is conductor laureate of the Illinois Symphony Orchestra where, as music director from 1980 to 2000, he founded the Illinois Symphony Chorus and Illinois Chamber Orchestra, led debuts at Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall, and won several awards.

During an illustrious career, he has held many notable musical positions and guest conducted numerous symphonies, including the National Symphony Orchestra at the Kennedy Center and the Chicago Symphony at Orchestra Hall.  He is the founder and director of the Conductors Retreat at Medomak, Maine and is considered one of the world’s most sought-after mentors to conductors.

The first four concert programs of the autumn season will be directed by guest conductors. The JPO’s musical director Aldonra de la Parra returns for the final three programs in the second half of November.

The sixth program will feature two “gala concerts,” and, as a bonus, includes an exclusive dinner at which patrons can meet de la Parra.

While these special shows will incur an additional cost, tickets for the regular concerts will be reasonably priced, from 110 to 200 pesos, up slightly from the previous season.

All the concerts will take place at the Teatro Degollado in the Guadalajara city center.

Tickets may be purchased at the theater box office, Monday to Sunday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., telephone (33) 3614-4773, or from Ticketmaster at www.ticketmaster.com or (33) 3818-3800.
