Well-known Canadian conductor to kick off state orchestra season

Still without a musical director, the Jalisco Philharmonic Orchestra (JPO) kicks off its second (summer) season of the year next weekend with a program featuring the works of two Spanish composers.

Canadian conductor Marco Parisotto will pick up the baton for the opening two concerts on Friday, June 7 and Sunday, June 9 at the Degollado Theater in Guadalajara.

He has conducted major orchestras, including the the Montreal Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestre National de France and the Mexico City Philharmonic.  He studied violin and piano before turning to conducting.

Parisotto will lead the JPO in “The Bullfighter’s Prayer” by Spaniard Joaquin Turina (1882-1949) and “The Lascivious Devout” by contemporary Spanish composer Juan Jose Colomer, who lives and works in Los Angeles, California.  The second piece will feature the acclaimed Spanish Brass Quintet Luur Metalls.  The closing piece will be Rachmaninoff’s “Symphony No. 2.”

Luur Metalls will give a free master class on Saturday, June 8, 10 a.m. at the Degollado Theater. There is free entry but reservations should be made by calling the JPO office at (33) 3030-9772.
