FESTA takes over downtown

The Ex Convento del Carmen and Plaza Fundadores host three-day fiestas on consecutive weekends as part of the first State Arts Festival (FESTA), a showcase for art, music, dance, theater and literature from many of Jalisco’s municipalities, which runs from November 14 to 24.

A slew of musical groups will perform Friday, November 15 through Sunday, November 17 at the Ex Convento del Carmen (Av. Juarez 638), from 5-10 p.m. on each day. The fiesta will be repeated, with different participants, from Friday, November 22 through Sunday, November 24. One hof the highlights will be a recital by the Coro Infantil de Zapopan on Sunday at 5 p.m.  

Events are scheduled in the Plaza Fundadores (behind the Teatro Degollado) from Friday, November 22 through Sunday, November 24,  with a series of performances from municipal dance and music groups from 4-11 p.m. on each day.  Among the highlights will be shows by Puerto Vallarta folk ballet troupe Xiutla on Friday at 9 p.m. and Mariachi Hacienda Atequiza (near Chapala) on Sunday at 7:30 p.m.  Saturday’s performances will be devoted to rock and pop music.
