State orchestra heads to Germany

The Jalisco Philharmonic Orchestra (JPO), directed by Canadian Marco Parisotto, will perform three concerts in Germany later this month.

The presentations – the first by the state orchestra in Germany – have been organized as part of the Dual Year Mexico-Germany, which concludes in May.

The concerts will take place in Essen (April 22), Berlin (April 24) and Munich (April 26).  A fourth presentation is also scheduled in Vienna, Austria on April 28.

The program will reflect both cultures. In the first half, as well as works by esteemed Mexican composers Arturo Márquez and Silvestre Revueltas, the percussion group Tambuco will perform their new piece, “Metal de tréboles,” that debuted at Guadalajara’s Teatro Degollado earlier this season.

The second half of the concerts will feature Symphony No. 1 in C Minor, Op. 68, one of the great orchestral works by German composer Johannes Brahms.

Around 100 members of the JPO are expected to travel to Europe for the concerts.

San Francisco

According to Arturo Gomez Poulat, the orchestra’s administrative director, the JPO will likely travel to San Francisco, California in July to participate in the fourth MEX I AM Festival, a multidisciplinary event that showcases some of the best performing arts, culture and ideas from Mexico. The concert will probably be held at the Louise M. Davies Symphony Hall, he said.

New CD

Gomez Poulat also announced that a new JPO CD produced by Sony Music will be released on April 21, although the official launch won’t be until June 2.
