Periplo circus arts festival to run June 3-10

For eight days, from June 3-10, Guadalajara will become Mexico’s capital of the circus arts when the fifth edition of the Festival Periplo Movimiento Internacional de Circo (translated as International Festival of the Traveling Circus) storms its ramparts.

There will be workshops, conferences, seminars, and a wild panoply – a menagerie, if you will – of divertissements for all ages.

While the word “international” is often affixed frivolously to the name of an event, this festival has its bona fides in place, giving the public an opportunity to watch and learn from a highly cosmopolitan gallery of professional artists, including Ukrainian Aleksandra Savina, American Thom Wall and Canadian Ennanuel Bochud – all three of whom have worked with Cirque de Soleil – plus Mexican Julia Padilla and German Fabian Krestel, both graduated from the Ecole Nationale de Cirque of Montreal.

The festival’s goings-on will be mainly concentrated in two places, both in the city center: El Foro Periplo (Prisciliano Sánchez 790 Zona Expiatorio),the festival’s headquarters, and LArVa (Laboratorio de Arte Variedades, Ocampo 120 Centro Histórico), which in addition will host the festival’s opening gala on Saturday, June 3.  For more information, go to elperiplo.com.
