LaChapelle show on final lap

Art enthusiasts have just one more week to catch the exhibit of 40 large-format, hyper-realistic photos by multi-tasking U.S. commercial photographer and artist David LaChapelle.

The exhibit, entitled “David LaChapelle Lost+Found” (Volver a Encontrarse) and populated by a grotesquely glamorous cast of models, landscapes and still-lifes, comes down at the Instituto Cultural Cabañas on July 30.

LaChapelle is best known for his photography, which often references art history and sometimes conveys social messages. His photographic style has been described as “hyper-real and slyly subversive” and as “kitsch pop surrealism.” Once called the Fellini of photography, LaChapelle has worked for international publications and has had his work exhibited at commercial galleries and institutions around the world.

Instituto Cultural Cabañas, Plaza Tapatia (Cabañas 8) about five blocks behind (east of) Teatro Degollado. Closed Mondays; open Tuesday to Sunday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Tuesdays free. Call (33)3818-2800 or 3668-1800 for more details.
