July 24: The Charlie Jazz Band pays homage to jazz greats Frank Gambale and Scott Henderson.

Tuesday recitals
The Jalisco Culture Secretariat’s “Martes de Música y Ópera” series showcases talented classical musicians at free-of-charge Tuesday evening recitals. July 25: Pianist Efraín Daniel Ulloa plays works by Bach, Haydn, Chopin and Schumann, among others. August 8: Baritone Alejandro Lazzarini is accompanied by pianist Sergio Hernández. Hear operatic classics by Mozart in the first half of the recital; Mexican classics (Agustín Lara, Manuel M. Ponce, María Grever) in the second. August 15: Guitarist Hugo Gracian and flautist Eduardo Arambula interpret works dating from ancient Greece to the 20th century. August 22: The Orquesta de Cámara Elga performs suites by Warlock, Janacek, Holst and Grieg.

Folk dance
Regarded as the best folk dance troupe in Mexico, the Ballet Folklorico of the Universidad de Guadalajara returns for another season of summer shows on Sunday evenings. See dances from all over the country, as well as emotive local favorites, such as the “Jarabe Tapatio” and “La Culebra.” Not to be missed!

The Pink Floyd Show
Harley Davidson and W Agency present an homage to the great progressive space rock band that came out of Britain in the late 1960s, most well-known for their albums “The Dark Side of the Moon” and “The Wall.” The two aforementioned enterprises dig into their deep pockets to put together a crack team of visual artists, technicians and musicians for a mind-expanding trip through time and space.

Soundtrack to ‘Spirited Away’
Fans of the films of Japanese animation auteur Hayao Miyazaki won’t want to miss this event, a concert by pianist /arranger Roberto Salamón featuring the music from the film “Spirited Away.” If Salamón’s recent performance of music from the French film Amelie is any indication, this should be a must see for Miyazaki fans.

Leiden
The Festival de las Artes de Jalisco (FESTA) kicks off with an inaugural concert by Leiden, a 29-year-old Cuban-Mexican folk-rock singer. The neice of famed Cuban poet Roberto Fernández Retamar, Leiden has resided in Mexico since the age of nine, first in Tijuana and later Guadalajara. The concert will feature songs from her recently released second album, “Los Muertos También Dejan Flores.”

Miles Davis& Gil Evans
As a part of the Jalisco Jazz Festival, Gil Cervantes and his orchestra present a program of music paying tribute to one of the mid-20th Century’s greatest partnerships: jazz trumpet giant Miles Davis and arranger/conductor Gil Evans. Together, these two men gifted to the world vinyl masterpieces such as Porgy and Bess, Miles Ahead, and most prominently, Sketches of Spain.
