Indigenous market facing Plaza del Sol

Dozens of artisans from the southern states of Oaxaca and Chiapas join craftsmen and women from other Mexican states and a few Latin American countries at a “show and sell” market set up in a large tented arena facing Guadalajara’s Plaza del Sol.

Shoppers will find a huge array of items, including beautiful clothes with indigenous designs, jewelry, wooden furniture, shawls, tablecloths, wall decorations, traditional toys, moles, liquors, natural remedies and much more.

Vendors from Peru and Colombia are offering a range of items not often seen in this region.  Of special interest are the hand-crafted wallets made by the Kuna people of Colombia, each of which carries its own unique design, at a cost of 500 pesos.

The tianguis is open from 10 a.m. daily on  Avenida Mariano Otero (corner of Obsidiana) through Monday, September 25.  Free entry. Dance presentations take place at regular intervals on an adjoining stage.
