The Jalisco Culture Secretariat’s “Martes de Música y Ópera” series showcases talented classical musicians at free-of-charge Tuesday evening recitals. October 10: Nadia Cano and David Rivera (violín), Eduardo Cabrera (viola) and Belén Ruiz (cello) perform works by Toru Takemitsu, Mendelssohn and Silvestre Revueltas. October 17: Martha García Renart and Juan Carlos Benavides play compositions for piano four hands. October 31: Pianist Sergio Hernández performs works by Brahms, Grieg, Ponce and Gershwin.

Ballet de Jalisco

Siddhartha the Musical

An original musical production by Chu Un Temple, under the direction of the Fo Guang Shan Academy of Art of the Philippines. The musical is an adaptation of “The Biography of Sakyamuni Buddha,” written by Buddhist monk Hsing Yun, founder of the Fo Guang Shan Buddhist Order in Taiwan.

Placido Domingo

Superstar tenor, now in his 76th year but still of fine voice, opens the University of Guadalajara’s new cultural complex.  Domingo will be joined by past winners of his Operalia competition for up-and-coming young opera singers.
