Slovak dance

Open-air performance by the Slovak National Folklore Ballet Lúčnica, an acclaimed song-and-dance ensemble from Bratislava.

The New York Times recently described the young dancers as “absolutely first-rate” and “sparkling with glittering technique.”

The Met: Live in HD

The Metropolitan Opera presents Mozart’s masterpiece, “Die Zauberflöte” (The Magic Flute). Met Music Director Emeritus James Levinec onducts Tony Award winner Julie Taymor’s production. Golda Schultz makes her Met debut as Pamina with Kathryn Lewek as the Queen of the Night, Charles Castronovoas the fairy tale prince Tamino, Markus Werbaas the bird-catching Papageno.

Ballet de Jalisco

The state’s only full-time professional classical dance troupe gives six open-air presentations on consecutive weekends of the world-famous ballet, Swan Lake, in the city’s most popular and largest park.

Siddhartha the Musical

An original musical production by Chu Un Temple, under the direction of the Fo Guang Shan Academy of Art of the Philippines. The musical is an adaptation of “The Biography of Sakyamuni Buddha,” written by Buddhist monk Hsing Yun.

Modern dance

Compagnie Käfig from France presents “Pixel,” an hour-long performance incorporating a host of digital projection mapping techniques, and 11 dancers, that bills itself as “a work on illusion combining energy and poetry, fiction and technical achievement, hip hop and circus.”

Isaac Hernandez

Jalisco Philharmonic Orchestra

The orchestra performs Symphony No. 2 by Gustav Mahler, known as the Resurrection Symphony. Marco Parisotto conducts. Nicole Heaston (soprano) and Cassandra Zoé Velasco (contralto) are the soloists. Accompaniment by the Zapopan Municipal Choir, directed by Timothy Ruff Welch.

Fall season continues with program titled “Hungarian Impressions.”  Works by Kodaly, Liszt, Brahms (Hungarian Dances 1, 4, 5, 6 and 7) and Bartok.  Guest pianist Daniela Liebman (right), a Guadalajara-born, 15-year-old Mexican-American, first played with the orchestra as a child prodigy at the age of nine. A winner of many competitions, she currently resides in the United States and studies piano under the tutelage of acclaimed professor Tamás Ungar.
