Ballet de Jalisco

The state’s only full-time professional classical dance troupe gives six open-air presentations on consecutive weekends of the world-famous ballet, Swan Lake, in the city’s most popular and largest park.

Siddhartha the Musical

An original musical production by Chu Un Temple, under the direction of the Fo Guang Shan Academy of Art of the Philippines. The musical is an adaptation of “The Biography of Sakyamuni Buddha,” written by Buddhist monk Hsing Yun, founder of the Fo Guang Shan Buddhist Order in Taiwan.

Modern dance

Compagnie Käfig from France presents “Pixel,” an hour-long performance incorporating a host of digital projection mapping techniques and 11 dancers, that bills itself as “a work on illusion combining energy and poetry, fiction and technical achievement, hip hop and circus.”

Tuesday recitals

The Jalisco Culture Secretariat’s “Martes de Música y Ópera” series showcases talented classical musicians at free-of-charge Tuesday evening recitals. October 31: Pianist Sergio Hernández performs works by Brahms, Grieg, Ponce and Gershwin. November 7: Céfiro Trío de Alientos (trio of wind instruments) interprets works by Mozart, José Pablo Moncayo,  Jean Françaix and Miguel Bernal Jiménez. November 14: Edna A Lobato, mezzosoprano, and Monica Arrambides, soprano, are accompanied by Jorge Luis Godinez on piano. Works by Humperdinck, Dvôrak, Massenet, Bizet, A. Lara, M. Ponce, among others. November 21: Recital by Víctor Celis Padrón, a master of the Yucatecan guitar.

The Ballet Nacional de Marseille presents “Rocco,” an innovative work in which dancers become boxers and boxers transform into dancers.

Concert dedicated to the music of Camille Saint-Saens, conducted by Marco Parisotto. The orchestra performs Symphony No. 2 by Gustav Mahler, known as the Resurrection Symphony. Marco Parisotto conducts. Nicole Heaston (soprano) and Cassandra Zoé Velasco (contralto) are the soloists. Accompaniment by the Zapopan Municipal Choir, directed by Timothy Ruff Welch.

The Met: Live in HD

The Metropolitan Opera presents Thomas Adès’s “The Exterminating Angel,” inspired by the classic Luis Buñuel film of the same name. Hailed by the New York Times as “inventive and audacious … a major event,” the opera is a surreal fantasy about a dinner party from which the guests can’t escape. Tom Cairns, who wrote the libretto, directs the production; Adès conducts his own adventurous new opera.
