Ballet de Jalisco

Chinese drama, dance
The China Arts and Entertainment Group and the China National Opera & Dance Drama Theater present “Zhaojun, La Princesa,” a traditional tale that takes place during the Han Dynasty (around 30 BC). The drama centers on one of Emperor Yuan’s concubines, Wang Zhaojun, who is charged with the mission bringing “harmonious kinship” to a region afflicted by war. This work has won multiple international awards for its staging, costumes and music.

Acrobatic Nutcracker
Founded in 1951, the Dalian Acrobatic Troupe is one of the most well known acrobatic troupes in China. In its debut tour to Mexico, the outfit will present a mix of acrobatics, ballet and pantomime in an ingenious version of “The Nutcracker,” with music by Tchaikovsky.

GR RECOMMENDS: Les Transformateurs
A unique musical outfit from Saint-Colomban, France will give two open-air presentations in Zapopan on November 20, which is Mexican Revolution Day and a national holiday. Les Transformateurs Acoustiques comprises five musicians who play instruments created from recycled objects by a luthier named Bruno Blandy. They include the tubatong (played with sandals, distilling a bass sound similar to a tuba) and the pitipla (producing melodies from stainless steel plates pulsed with a hammer, resembling a steel drum sound). The groups styles cover reggae, calypso and salsa, among others.
The presentations will be Monday, November 20, at the Glorieta Chapalita (Guadalupe and San Ignacio) at 5 p.m. and in the Plaza del las Americas (facing the Zapopan Basilica) at 7 p.m. Free.
