FIL concerts
The International Book Fair (FIL) presents free nightly shows in the Foro Expo, in front of the entrance to the Expo Guadalajara, all at 9 p.m. The line-up is a mix of artists from Madrid, this year’s invited guest at FIL, and Mexico.

Concerts/recitals are held on Mondays at this cultural complex to the north of the city. November 27: Tridente Jazz Trio interpret pieces by Scott Joplin, Duke Ellington, Cole Porter, Gershwin, Claude Bolling. December 4: The Monica Zuloaga Christmas Quartet.

Tuesday recitals
The Jalisco Culture Secretariat’s “Martes de Música y Ópera” series showcases talented classical musicians at free-of-charge Tuesday evening recitals. November 28: Zapopan Municipal Choir directed by Timothy G. Ruff Welch.

Jalisco Philharmonic Orchestra
Opera gala with pieces by Bellini, Bizet, Puccini, Leoncavallo, Massenet, Mascagni, von Reznicek and Tchaikovsky. Marco Parisotto conducts, with U.S. soprano Lauren Michelle and Italian tenor Lorenzo Decaro.

Jalisco Philharmonic Orchestra
Tenor Rame Lahaj is the invited artist as the state orchestra presents Neapolitan songs and arias under the baton of Marco Parisotto. Pieces by Verdi, Puccini, Rossini and Respighi, among others.

The Nutcracker
The Ballet de Jalisco and the Jalisco Philharmonic Orchestra team up for this production of the holiday classic. Jesus Medina is the invited conductor, while Dariusz Blajer directs the ballet troupe, the only full-time professional outfit in Jalisco.

GR RECOMMENDS: Acrobatic Nutcracker
Founded in 1951, the Dalian Acrobatic Troupe is one of the most well known acrobatic troupes in China. In its debut tour to Mexico, the outfit will present a mix of acrobatics, ballet and pantomime in an ingenious version of “The Nutcracker,” with music by Tchaikovsky.
