January 15: New York’s Toledo-Triay jazz quartet in concert. (Guitarist Marcos Toledo was born in Guadalajara, and left to study in New York in 2014.)

January 22: Recital by violinist Roberto Peña Sommer. Works by Vivaldi, Bach, Paganini and others. January 29: The Orquesta Arte Cámara from Colombia join forces with the Orquesta Sinfónica Juvenil de Guadalajara.

Carmina Burana

The Orquesta Arte Cámara from Colombia and the Orquesta Sinfónica Juvenil de Guadalajara interpret Carmina Burana, the cantata composed by Carl Orff in 1935 and 1936, based on 24 poems from the medieval collection of the same name.

Elina Garanca

Mariachi, folk dance

The Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlan celebrates their 120th anniversary, with a tribute and homage to Pepe Guizar, the composer of the famed tune “Guadalajara, Guadalajara.” Accompanied by the Ballet México Folklórico directed by Francisco de Paul.

Live from the Met

In L’elisir d’amore (The Elixir of Love), Pretty Yende debuts a new role at the Met with her first Adina opposite Matthew Polenzani, who enthralled Met audiences as Nemorino in 2013 with his ravishing “Una furtiva lagrima.” Bartlett Sher’s production is charming, with deft comedic timing, but also emotionally revealing.
