SUNDAY BULLFIGHT
The big name on the final corrida (bullfight) of the winter season at Guadalajara’s Plaza del Toros Nuevo Progreso is Pablo Hermosa de Mendoza, Mexico’s most famous rejoneador.
Rejoneado means bullfighting on horseback and is one of the most spectacular components of this popular pastime. The date: Sunday, March 11, 4:30 p.m. The Plaza del Toros Nuevo Progreso is located on the corner of Calzada Independencia Norte and Monte Pireno, across from the Estadio Jalisco. YOUNG ARTISTS
Entries are being accepted for the “Jóvenes Pintores de Jalisco” (Young Painters of Jalisco) competition, organized by the state government. The contest is open to all artists aged between 18 and 25 whose work has never previously been shown at a gallery, museum, or entered into a competition. The first prize either a five-day trip to New York (including a visit to the Museum of Modern Art) or a trip to Madrid (including a visit to the Prado Museum). TRADITIONAL CUISINE
Want to try some homespun Jalisco cooking? Then head over to the 5th Encuentro Regional de Comida Tradicional y Popular Jalisco 2018, to be held in the Plaza de Armas in downtown Zapopan, Friday, March 16 through Sunday, March 18. You can expect to find many examples of traditional dishes from various parts of this state at very reasonable prices. Entertainment will be on hand. The huge plaza faces the historic Basilica, home to the statue of the Virgin of Zapopan.
