The Jalisco Culture Secretariat’s “Martes de Musica y Opera” series showcases talented classical musicians at free-of-charge Tuesday evening recitals. Orquesta Tipica de Guadalajara

Mariachi galas
The gala concerts at the majestic Teatro Degollado are among the high points of the city’s International Mariachi Festival in Guadalajara. On six evenings during the festival, the country’s top mariachi groups perform alongside the Jalisco Philharmonic Orchestra in lively and emotional performances.

Catherine Russell Quartet
U.S. vocalist whose father, the late Luis Russell, was Louis Armstrong’s long-time musical director. Her mother, the late Carline Ray, held degrees from both Juilliard and the Manhattan School of Music and performed with the International Sweethearts of Rhythm during World War II.

Les Balletde Montecarlo

Acclaimed Alaska-born mezzosoprano Vivica Genaux in concert, accompanied by baroque musical group Antiqva Metropoli, directed by Luca Giardini, also an accomplished violinist.
Genaux began her professional career specializing in charming portrayals of Rossini comic heroines (Rosina in Il barbiere di Siviglia, Isabella in L’italiana in Algeri, Angelina in La Cenerentola). She has performed these roles more than 200 times with many of the major U.S. opera companies, including the Metropolitan, San Francisco, Dallas, Seattle, San Diego, Pittsburgh and Minnesota Operas. She has also performed at Carnegie Hall in New York, with the Los Angeles Opera, the Deutsche Staatsoper in Berlin and the Opéra National de Paris.
