Romantic sounds at Rondalla Fest

The first Rondallas Guadalajara 2018 Festival will showcase ten local groups of the “rondalla” genre in three presentations, two of them free of charge.

The rondalla is an ensemble of stringed instruments played with the plectrum or pick that originated in Medieval Spain, especially in Catalonia, Aragon, Murcia and Valencia.  In Mexico, the songs are usually romantic, in keeping with the traditional theme of melancholy love and evening serenades.

The Plaza de Armas, facing the Palacio de Gobierno in the city center, will host two free events, Thursday, September 28, and Friday, September 28, from 5-8  p.m.  A gala concert will be held Saturday, September 29, 6-9 p.m. at the Foro de Arte y Cultura. Tickets are 100 pesos at Ticketmaster or at the door.
