Domingo & Bocelli to light up December

Two of the world’s most famous tenors will be making appearances in Guadalajara in December, although only one of them will be singing.

pg20bSpain’s Placido Domingo will direct the Jalisco Philharmonic Orchestra and the Zapopan Municipal Choir in a presentation of Verdi’s “Requiem” at the Conjunto de Artes Escenicas on Sunday, December 2, 8 p.m., while Italian Andrea Bocelli will perform at the Auditorio Telmex on Thursday, December 20, 9 p.m.

The Domingo concert will pay homage to his mother, Doña Pepita Embril, a Basque soprano who starred in zarzuela and operetta productions throughout Spain and Latin America. Known as the “Queen of Zarzuela,” she is especially remembered for nurturing the early career of her son, who made one of his first professional performances at Guadalajara’s Teatro Degollado in May 1959. Embril, who passed away in 1994, was born in February 1918.

The soloists for the performance of “Requiem” are Maria Katzarava, Nancy Fabiola Herrera, Arturo Chacón-Cruz and Nicholas Brownlee. Tickets range from 500 to 2,000 pesos.

Bocelli’s show carries a much heftier price tag, with tickets ranging from 1,000 to 9,500 pesos for VIP seating.
