Monday concerts
Talented local musicians of different genres showcased each Monday. January 7: Ana Caridad Villeda Cerón (violin), Miguel Ángel Villeda Cerón (cello) and Saúl Ulises Ibarra Ramos (piano) perform works by Mendelssohn and Tchaikovsky.
January 14: Cuarteto Yaracuy from Venezuela play pieces by Mozart, Brahms and Shostakovich. January 21: María Contreras Palomar, a Guadalajara singer currently studying music in New York, interprets the songs of Italian pop singer Laura Pausini. The recital benefits ProMexico, a government trust fund that promotes international trade and investment. January 28: The Cuarteto Janus, directed by Christopher Wilshere, perform works by Bottesini and Francaix. Featuring Diana Carolina Laguna Rivas (violin), Francisco Vidal Rivera González (violin), Luis Carlos Rincón Barrios (viola) and Areli Medeles Medina (cello).

Steve Rothery Band
Rothery is the original guitarist and the longest continuous member of the British rock band Marillion. Outside Marillion, Rothery has recorded two albums as part of the duo the Wishing Tree and an instrumental solo album. He also founded the British Guitar Academy in 2011.

Live from the Met
The New York Metropolitan Opera kicks off 2019 with “Adriana Lecouvreur,” featuring Anna Netrebko in the title role of the real-life French actress who dazzled 18th-century audiences with her on-and-off stage passion. The soprano is joined by tenor Piotr Beczała as Adriana’s lover, Maurizio. The principal cast also features mezzo-soprano Anita Rachvelishvili and baritone Ambrogio Maestri. Gianandrea Noseda conducts.

Bauhaus tour
In honor of the 40th anniversary of gothic rock pioneers Bauhaus, members Peter Murphy and David J have reunited for a special tour. “The Ruby Celebration” sees the pair playing the band’s debut album, “In the Flat Field,” in its entirety before segueing into an encore filled with classics from the Bauhaus catalog.

Live from the Met
A production of Bizet’s “Carmen” in all its glory with mezzo-soprano Clémentine Margaine reprising her remarkable portrayal of opera’s ultimate seductress, a triumph in her 2017 debut performances, with impassioned tenors Yonghoon Lee and Roberto Alagna as her lover, Don José. Omer Meir Wellber and Louis Langrée share conducting duties for Sir Richard Eyre’s powerful production, a Met favorite since its 2009 premiere.

Joan Manuel Serrat
Barcelona-born folk and protest singer, now 75, still has a huge following in the Spanish-speaking world. He sings in both Spanish and Catalan, and has been widely influenced by various Latin American poets, including Chile’s Pablo Neruda and Spain’s Antonio Machado. His Guadalajara show is part of his “Mediterráneo Da Capo” tour, during which he will relaunch his emblematic album “Mediterráneo,” first released in 1971.

Gaetano Donizetti’s “La Fille du Régiment” sees tenor Javier Camarena and soprano Pretty Yende team up for a feast of bel canto vocal fireworks– including the show-stopping tenor aria “Ah! Mes amis,” with its nine high Cs. Alessandro Corbelli and Maurizio Muraro trade off as the comic Sergeant Sulpice, with mezzo-soprano Stephanie Blythe as the outlandish Marquise of Berkenfield. Enrique Mazzola conducts.
