Live from the Met
Director Phelim McDermott tackles “Akhnaten,” another one of Philip Glass’s modern masterpieces, with star countertenor Anthony Roth Costanzo as the revolutionary title ruler who transformed ancient Egypt. To match the opera’s hypnotic, ritualistic music, McDermott offers an arresting vision that includes a virtuosic company of acrobats and jugglers. Karen Kamensek conducts.

Jalisco Philharmonic Orchestra
Mexican mezzosoprano Rocio Tamez sings in the Spanish composer Manuel de Falla’s “El Amor Brujo” (originally composed as a spooky ballet with strong gypsy influences). Also on the program are two works by Stravinsky, Suite No. 2 for Small Orchestra and his “Symphony in Three Movements.” Jose Luis Castillo from Spain conducts.

The Nutcracker
