Philharmonic teams with innovative mariachi group

A surprise, live concert under the banner of the 28th International Mariachi Festival was announced midweek.

Entitled “Que Suene Jalisco y que Viva México” (What Jalisco dreams and what Mexico lives), the 9 p.m. performance inside the sleek Telmex Auditorium Friday, September 17, features conductor Jesus Medina, the director of the Jalisco Philharmonic Orchestra, and two-thirds of the OFJ’s 90 musicians in a fusion concert with Mariachi Internacional CHG de Gamaliel Contreras Huerta.

Tickets for the following night’s gala on Saturday, September 18, with the OFJ and two legendary mariachi groups, announced in this newspaper last week, have already completely sold out. However, at press time, although the Friday concert has barely been announced, a small number of tickets for the Friday concert were still available.
