GDL string orchestra concert to feature English composers

After a successful Ajijic debut in early October, the young students who make up the Virtuosi Guadalajara string orchestra are returning to Lakeside with a new program featuring works by English composers Benjamin Britten and Peter Warlock, as well as Bach’s timeless classic, the Brandenburg Concerto #3 for String Orchestra.

pg21“Virtuosi Guadalajara” is the fruition of a project that violinist Christopher Wilshere started midway through the pandemic with a group of his most advanced private students. The 12 young artists that make up the ensemble range from 15 to 25 years of age. The orchestra is led by their professor in the concertmaster chair.

“One of the first things you’ll notice is that there’s no conductor in our ensemble,” says Wilshere.

In a normal orchestral setting, there is always a man with a stick telling you where to play, but Wilshere wanted his students to learn to play together without the help of a baton.
