Mexico’s premier folk dance troupe sets two dates in GDL

The Ballet Folklorico de Mexico, considered by many to be the finest folk dance troupe in the country, gives two performances at the Conjunto Santander de las Artes Escenicas on Saturday, September 24, 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, September 25, 6 p.m.

The ballet company was founded in 1952 by Amalia Hernandez, an artist and choreographer who developed the original eight-person troupe into a national symbol of excellence. She took the troupe around the world, performing for world leaders, including U.S. Presiden John Kennedy.  Her love of Mexican culture motivated her to investigate dances from many regions of the country, which would be reflected in her many choreographies.
