State Orchestra moves summer season to Conjunto Santander

The Jalisco Philharmonic Orchestra (OFJ) will relocate its entire summer season from its traditional home at the historic Teatro Degollado to the Conjunto Santander de Artes Escénicas on the northern Guadalajara beltway, as the massive World Cup 2026 Fan Fest occupies the city center.

A somewhat truncated second 2026 season runs from June 14 to July 12 and features six concerts across five programs, blending symphonic music, film scores, dance and Ibero-American repertoire. OFJ artistic director José Luis Castillo will lead the season .

pg6bThe opening concert, “Música de cuerdas para cine” (String Music for Film), takes place Sunday, June 14, 1 p.m., and features the Higinio Ruvalcaba Chamber Orchestra performing with the OFJ, interpreting works by Herrmann, Vaughan Williams, Mahler and Mascagni.

The season continues Sunday, June 21, 1 p.m. with what is billed as the “farewell concert” of the Latin American Quartet, with works by Valcárcel, Piazzolla and Shostakovich.

Scheduled on Thursday, June 25, 8:30 p.m. and Sunday, June 28, 1 p.m. is “Giselle, las que no volvieron” — a dance co-production with UNAM’s Choreographic Workshop, reinterpreting the classical ballet with a contemporary vision.
