Rod Stewart coming to town to open new Coliseo GNP

The aging Tres de Marzo Stadium in Zapopan is being transformed into a modern, multifunctional entertainment complex. Announced this week, (also aging) British crooner Rod Stewart — but at 81 still commanding stages worldwide — will inaugurate the renamed Coliseo GNP Seguros with a concert on September 11.

Screen Shot 2026 06 02 at 20.44.53The venue is the result of a partnership between Ocesa, GNP Seguros and the Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara (UAG), which owns the stadium. It will have a capacity of nearly 30,000 people, depending on the event configuration.

The Coliseo will be equipped with state-of-the-art technology, including “led ribbon” screens around its interior perimeter, exterior screens, upgraded lighting and enhanced acoustics to support top-tier international productions. The project also incorporates convivial zones, commercial areas, food courts and a beer garden. A new large access esplanade, widened tunnels, and improved accessibility for people with reduced mobility round out the upgrades.
