On a weekday afternoon, the crowd viewing “El Gusto del Trazo” (The Pleasure of the Line) couldn’t match the one at the Louvre, yet a respectable stream of mostly young people, even a skateboard-toting couple, flowed through the graceful Ex Convento del Carmen in downtown Guadalajara scrutinizing the hundred or so drawings by French artist Nicolas de Crécy with obvious interest.

Although enigmatic, the provocative and varied art installation,”Pogo,” at one of Guadalajara’s premier venues, the Instituto Cultural Cabañas, should stimulate reflection among visitors who enjoy nontraditional art. These ambitious pieces by Argentine artist Máximo González are worth seeing and, at the same time, one can take in several other exhibits from Argentina, this year’s invited country at the International Book Fair (Feria Internacional de Libros).

The Jalisco Philharmonic Orchestra (JPO) has a big year ahead. 2015 marks “100 Years of Orchestral Tradition in Jalisco,” as JPO publicity calls its celebration of the establishment in 1915 by the illustrious José Rolón of a group of musicians playing symphony and chamber music.
