High school invites foreign community to cultural week

The Chapala  Preparatoria (High School) is celebrating its 40th anniversary with a special cultural week from October 3-8, to which the public is invited.

Besides lectures on various forms of pedagogy (in Spanish) visitors will find interesting exhibitions of painting, dance, music, photography and other arts, along with displays of sea fossils, natural wildlife fossils (prehistoric) and a collection of native memorial tombs and funeral services.

Students, faculty, parents, volunteers, government authorities and scholarship sponsors are involved in this event. The school – which is affiliated with the University of Guadalajara – is anxious for the foreign community to see the school and learn more about its programs.

Even though the university offers free education, there are obvious costs and expenses for the students. Many students come from low-income families and have to travel from neighboring communities. Their transportation bills really mount up.

Visiting during cultural week will be a great opportunity to enhance the school’s links to the foreign community at Lakeside.

The school is located at Calle Teofilo Silva Perez 1 in the Las Redes neighborhood of Chapala.  Telephone: 765-3400.
