Chapala to host own Pan Am games cultural program

As the host city for the Pan Am games water ski competition, Chapala has prepared a series of special events to entice visitors and residents alike.

The program of free cultural events will be centered at the Fuente de Pescadores stage most evenings spanning the next three weekends. The tentative program available at press time includes:

Friday, October 14 Luis Delgadillo and Los Keliguanes, a music and theater spectacle with giant puppets and stilt walkers geared for special appeal to children 7 p.m.

Saturday, October 15 Tunas y Estudiantinas, costumed student troubadours with string instruments, strolling along Avenida Madero and the Malecon from 6 p.m., followed by a concert on the main stage, 7 p.m

Sunday, October 16 Grupo Radaid appears performing ethnic music from around the world, 8 p.m.

Wednesday, October 19 Danza Folklorica Xiutla, an award-winning Mexican folk dance troupe from Puerto Vallarta, 8 p.m.

Friday, October 21 Soprano Natalia Ramos, whose repertoire ranges from operatic arias to classic Mexican songs, 8 p.m.

Sunday, October 23 Los Centenarios, harp duo playing traditional Mexican tunes.

Saturday, October 29 Compania de Danza Clasica de Jalisco, the state’s distinguished ballet company.

This program is subject to last minute changes. For the latest details visit the Chapala tourism office at the west end of the Malecon, open during the remainder of the month on Mondays, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Tuesday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturdays and Sundays, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
