An exciting young product of the Lake Chapala Society (LCS) Children’s Art Program has been accepted for studies at the University of Guadalajara.
This is no surprise to many in the Lakeside community who have been aware of Luis Enrique Martinez for several years – the last several covers of the LCS directory being among his creations.
The 19-year-old began his university career this week. He will study math, computer technology and methodology. He will also take courses in Mexican art history, graphic art and design, pottery, drawing and oil and watercolor painting. An key part of his course will deal with business practices.
This first year of Martinez’s studies will be the most expensive because he is not yet eligible for scholarships. Public education in Mexico is free but accommodation, transportation, materials, furnishings and food are not. He’ll also need mentors and tutors to help him adjust to this new stage in his life. He has already managed to contribute to his own schooling through the sale of his artworks and some reproductions (visit his website at www.luisenriqueart.com) and, on his own, has found a place to live (less expensive than daily the commute to and from Lakeside).
