Though several local art galleries will pare down their hours of business during the summer months, most will remain open and ready for customers.
Addiction (east side of the Ajijic Plaza) will be closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Hours on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Addiction is a showcase for the original jewelry of Jose Melendrez, along with organic soaps and fragrances and DVD’s of music and movies. Sol Mexicano (Colon 13, Ajijic) will be open Monday through Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and on Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. The gallery will be closed from May 30 to June 30. Sol Mexicano houses Mexican artesania, jewelry and wall art. The telephone number is 766-0734.
Arte Studio Velazquez (16 de Septiembre 7, Ajijic) is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. or maybe later if the door is open. Make an appointment by calling 766-0162. The Velazquez gallery houses fine art by Enrique and Belva Velazquez, including watercolor paintings, oil paintings, murals and calendars. Classes are also available.
Aztec Studios (Carretera Pte. 232, west Ajijic) is open Thursdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The gallery features hand weavings and paintings reflecting the rich heritage of Mexico. A new series features graphic design in brilliant colors. The telephone number is 766-3543.
Cathy Chalvignac Galeria (Calle 16 de Septiembre 22, Ajijic) is open every day from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Chalvignac is best known for her foto-realism style of painting. The telephone number is 766-1153.
Galeria de las Flores (Morelos 9, extension of Colon, Ajijic) shows the oil paintings of Luisa Julian, who also gives classes in oil painting on a regular basis. Regular hours at the gallery are Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The gallery will be closed the entire month of May and reopen on Monday, June 4. The telephone number is 765-6920.
Diane Pearl Colecciones (Colon 1, Ajijic) has a broad selection of fine Mexican crafts and art, as well as being an outlet for tickets to many local charity events. The gallery is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The telephone number is 766-5683.
El Gallo Gallery (Guadalupe Victoria 30, Ajijic) will be closed during May. The gallery houses and exhibits water-media paintings by owner Ken Gosh and his students. The gallery will re-open in June, but won’t have regular hours. Call for an appointment to 766-4171.
Galeria de Arte Efren Gonzalez (Marcos Castellanos 7, Ajijic) is a show place for Gonzalez’s fine paintings and those of the children who participate in his free art classes.
