Prominent artists to be showcased at ECA craft fair

Six of lakeside’s best known native artists will be featured exhibitors at the upcoming Expo Chapala Artesenal (ECA) arts and craft fair, opening Wednesday, August 15, Noon.

The summer edition of the tri-annual show of locally produced merchandise will be held at La Vela Plaza at the west end of the Chapala Malecon, running daily, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., through Sunday, August 19. This time a special artist’s tent will showcase works by painters Jesus Lopez Vega, Javier Zaragoza, Efren Gonzalez, Bruno Mariscal, Antonio Cardenas and Isidro Xilonzochitl.

ECA rates as a shopper’s paradise for bargain hunters and connoisseurs of Mexican artesanias.  Retail and wholesale buyers alike will find great deals on hand-loomed textiles, hand-embroidered clothing, Wixirika Indian beadwork, typical huarache footwear and other leather goods, assorted fashion wear, jewelry and accessories. Decorative items for the home and garden include corn husk flowers and figurines, bonsai plants and containers, original ceramic and ironwork pieces and pre-Columbian reproductions.

Local performers will also appear to provide live entertainment during peak visitor hours. Admission to the event is free of charge.
