Velvet-voiced and amazingly versatile, Jorge Acosta has a huge following at his weekly shows at The Palm — El Piano Rojo’s sister club in Puerto Vallarta — where he often introduces new talent to the room. And since he presented Polish soprano Beata Stankiewicz a few weeks ago, folks just can’t get enough of her angelic powerhouse voice.
Classically trained as a soprano and flautist at the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw, before arriving in Mexico six months ago, Stankiewicz performed on cruise ships, discovering Vallarta through a friend she met on one of those cruises.
“Beata’s elegance on stage is nothing short of magic,” emphasizes The Palm’s entertainment coordinator Tracy Parks. “Combined with Jorge’s charming, smooth personality, they are a beautiful match.”
Singing in English, Spanish and Italian, the duo’s rendition of “Music of the Night” from Phantom of the Opera is so spellbinding I found myself wondering how on earth such a delicate-looking woman could have such a formidable voice –– Stankiewicz’s vocal sound reminiscent of soprano superstar Sara Brightman.
Acosta is also classically trained. Sincere, humble, and absolutely charming, his passion for music ranges from Mexican standards and Latin love songs to pop, soul, rock and roll, you name it. Singing melodies made popular by Frank Sinatra, The Beatles, The Platters, James Taylor, Elvis and more, he often has the audience enthusiastically joining in. But whenever he croons “Besame Mucho,” “Sin Ti,” and other romantic favorites, Acosta’s voice is the only one in the room.
Acosta performs March 1-3, at 7 p.m.
Also returning is sassy singer-comedian Chi Chi Rones, from February 28 to March 2, at 9 pm.
