Posada Axixic to host crafts show

Posada Axixic will host a three-day exhibition showcasing arts and crafts produced in the lakeshore region, running Friday, May 3 through Sunday, May 5.

The Artesania Expo will feature a wide array of goods, including hand-embroidered clothing, huarache sandals, hand-loomed serapes and other textiles, jewelry and fashion accessories made of diverse materials, corn husk figures, ceramics, metal sculptures, paintings and other art works.

According to event organizer Ana Yañez, most of the exhibitors represent cottage industries operating along Lake Chapala’s north and south shores. Selected guest artists will bring equipal furniture from Zacoalco de Torres, molcajetes (volacanic stone mortars) from San Lucas Evangelista and silver jewelry from the state of Guerrero.

The bulk of the display will occupy the Posada’s back garden, with a few stands spilling out on the sidewalk of Calle Morelos. Hours are set for 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Admission is free to the public.

Yañez is counting on continued support from Posada Axixic proprietor Juan Ignacio Fuentes Yañez in her aim of repeating the craft show on the first weekend of every month.
