A homage to ‘chanson francaise’

Le Femmes de Serge, a quartet of young performers that is gaining steady popularity in Guadalajara, pays homage to “chanson francaise,” the genre of music popularized in the 1940s and 50s in France, at El Piano Rojo (Morelos 14, Ajijic) on Friday, June 7 and Saturday, June 8.

Two performances, at 7 p.m. and 9 p.m., are scheduled on each day. Tickets cost 200 pesos.

Vocalists Mary Camarena (Radaid) and Florence Vermue, along with Jorge Verdin on piano and Janet Carmago (Selma) on guitar and bass, bring a contemporary touch to classic music by the likes of Serge Gainsbourg, Georges Brassens, Jacques Brel and Edith Piaf, among others.

The quartet played recently at the Festival Cultural de Mayo and has been thrilling audiences at various metro area venues.

In a collaboration with this weekend’s event, Ajijic restaurant El Jardin de Ninette (Constitucion 57) will offer a special four-course French dinner, either before or after the performances, with a discount for patrons of the show.  Call for menu offerings and reservations at 376-766-4905.

In addition, Casa del Sol B&B is offering a 20 percent rate discount for those wishing to stay overnight.
