Dance and mariachi show wows Lakeside audienceDance and mariachi show wows Lakeside audience

Sensational choreography and the bright sounds of live musicians drew enthusiastic applause from the audience attending the June 30 appearance of Sonidos y Movimientos de Mexico at the Auditorio de la Ribera.

The program offered lively interpretations of dances from Tamaulipas, Sonora, Veracruz Jalisco and Nayarit, featuring a contemporary take on the Son Jarocho and a unique fusion of classic and folk styles in the closing number, Violin Huapango.  The Norteño style quartet and full mariachi band appearing with the dance troupe added extra punch to the two-hour show.

Proceeds from the event are destined to fund the formation of a Chapala regional dance company and the development of special choreography reflecting local history and culture.
