‘Thriller in Ajijic’ premiere brings out lakeside celebs

Rabid Chihuahua Productions presented the debut of the locally produced film “Thriller in Ajijic” with a tongue-in-cheek opening staged Sunday, August 23 at the town plaza.

Wrapped in all the trappings of a star-studded Hollywood premiere, the event drew a big crowd of spectators dressed to the nines, keen to catch members of the cast and crew walking the red carpet for facetious interviews conducted prior to the screening.

Once the audience settled inside La Martina Discoteque, imitation Oscar awards were handed out for the winners of various dubious honors.

Billed as a “mock-u-mentary,” the film’s plot revolves around a series of predicaments that jeopardize the consummation of Ajijic’s annual “Thrill the World” Zombie flash dance event. It’s a 100-minute cinematic romp that pokes fun at expat stereotypes, government red tape, culture shock and the vagaries of Mexican village life. The movie premiere gala and lakeside’s real-life Thriller performances helped raise funds for Cruz Roja Chapala. Local choreographer Elliott Joachim will hold an initial casting call for this year’s wanna-be Zombie dancers on Saturday, September 13, time and place to be announced.
