Star class pianists, prodigy lined up for lakeside concert

Music lovers can look forward to a top notch listening experience when three outstanding pianists take the stage Saturday, April 9, 7 p.m. at the Auditorio de la Ribera, La Floresta.

The concert will feature Vlada Vassilieva and Anatoly Zatin – appearing together as Duo Petrof – and Saúl Ibarra, the 15-year-old prodigy who is blossoming under their tutelage at the University of Colima’s Fine Arts Institute.

Duo Petrof has wowed audiences at Mexico City’s Palacio de Bellas Artes, Carnegie Hall and other venues around the globe with a scintillating style in performing a repertoire for four hands.

Born in 2001, Ibarra began his musical training at age seven with local instructor Cecilia Garduño Ochoa, later enrolling at Ajijic’s Centro Regional de Estudios Musicales (CREM) to study violin and piano. With guidance by Vassilleva and Zatin, he has focused on mastering the ivories over the past two years.

Tickets for their joint appearance are available at the auditorium lobby box office, priced at 300 pesos.  Proceeds will go into the CREM scholarship fund that supports about half of the school’s 60 students.

Financial aid is offered to deserving local youngsters who show a keen interest and potential for learning instrumental music. The teaching staff includes a number of program graduates who have gone on to become professional musicians.
