Ukulele Club members to hold happy sing-along at Restaurant Maria Isabel

The happy strummers from Club Ukulele de Laguna are tuning up to provide the rousing accompaniment to a selection of favorite holiday songs for the Third Annual Christmas Ukulele Singalong which is slated for Monday, December 5, 4 p.m.

The halls of Restaurant Maria Isabel at the Ajijic pier will ring with the sounds of Christmas as nearly 30 club members take the stage to play in this season’s event. There is no admission charge for this annual happy holiday sing-along. After all, the audience is expected to do their part and lift their voices to the familiar carols and ditties. Lyrics sheets will be available for the carolers who are encouraged to keep time to the music with the group’s assortment of jingle bells, maracas and other rhythm makers.

Some of the 40 students of the Academia de Ukuleles de la Ribera will be on hand to demonstrate their skills on this versatile little instrument, under the leadership of their Music Director Eduardo Garcia Espinosa. The adult players will pass collection baskets to benefit the Chuck Candy Scholarship Fund which helps fund private lessons and upgrade instruments for the children in the program.

Area residents interested in joining the club are encouraged to approach any of the musicians during the intermission or after the concert for more information. Members meet to play and learn every Monday from 2 to 4 p.m. at Restaurant Maria Isabel. A limited number of rental ukuleles are available for those new to the instrument.

Maria Isabel’s team of happy waiters will be on hand to provide no-host table service for those who wish to celebrate the holidays with a cup of good cheer. Restaurant Maria Isabel is located at the foot of the Ajijic pier.
