Sangre Viva fest celebrates Mexican identity

The fourth Festival Cultural Sangre Viva, slated for Friday, January 27 through Sunday, 29 in Ajijic, will encompass diverse activities accenting Mexico’s ancestral roots.

The festival program kicks off Friday morning as artesanos from different parts of the country set up displays of their unique handicrafts in a market place around the village plaza.

An inaugural ceremony scheduled for 6 p.m. will be followed by a full evening of live entertainment highlighting the evolution of Mexican musical genres through the ages.

The Living Blood happening picks up again Saturday, 11 a.m., with a variety of art and craft workshops and conferences that will continue throughout the day. Shows starting at 6 p.m. will feature a Reggae-Ska concert, Pre-Hispanic dance and music spectacles and a performance of fusion music.

The craft show, workshops, conferences, music and dance acts continue Sunday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Temascal ritual sweat baths will be offered throughout the weekend on the Ajijic beach, with times to be announced on the final program that will be posted at the plaza.

All activities are open to the public free of charge. A donation box will be available for all those willing to contribute towards covering festival expenses.
