Magical afternoon awaits at Viva’s Opera Gala

The Jalisco Opera Company will present an afternoon program of music by many of the greats of the opera world at a gala sponsored by Viva la Musica Thursday August 30, 4 p.m., at St. Andrews Anglican Church.

The six professional singers are mezzo Teresa Banderas, soprano Marichuy Cardenas, tenors Jose Lopez and Jesus Frausto, baritone Ricardo Lavin and bass Salvador Ramos. They will be accompanied by a small orchestra featuring Juan Garcia on piano, Jose Garcia on violin, Juan Rodriguez on viola, Jorge Lopez on cello, Gil Lopez on flute, Daniel Estrada on clarinet, Maria Velasquez on bassoon and Joaquin Trejo on French horn. Among works included in the program are compositions by Mozart, Rossini, Bizet, Puccini and Verdi.

This combination of talented singers with rich orchestral backing offers all the force of grand opera in an intimate setting for a truly splendid experience.

Tickets, 400 pesos, are available from Diane Pearl, Mia’s Boutique and the Lake Chapala Society on Thursday and Friday 10 a.m. to noon. The event includes a champagne and canape reception in the garden at 3:30 p.m. before the concert.
