Community Orchestra prepares first concert

The inaugural concert of the Lake Chapala Community Orchestra takes place Sunday, December 16, 2 p.m. at The Spotlight Club in San Antonio.

pg26Entitled “A Christmas Celebration,” the presentation features a selection of much loved seasonal music, including “Sleigh Ride” and “Carol of the Bells.”

Orchestra conductor Michael Reason has designed the concert to include Christmas-themed readings interspersed with the music, aimed at creating an afternoon of magical entertainment.

“The audience will become an integral part of the concert through singing popular carols and providing some extremely important percussion effects,” Reason said.

The concert features two local singers, Dulce del Torro and Karen Procter, who will perform Mozart’s “Alleluia,” “Veni Veni Emanuel” and “Silent Night.”

The Lake Chapala Community Orchestra has entered into a partnership with the Orquesta Filarmonica Infantil de la Ribera de Chapala, to give the young students opportunities to play with them and compliment their education.

“This is what a community orchestra is about – musical inclusivity,” Reason said. “We are delighted to have these students be part of the rehearsal and concert experience.”

The orchestra looks forward to the support of the community as it makes its first public appearance since forming in October.
