‘Soft, passionate’ paintings on view at Ajijic soirée

A meet-the-artist event to peruse the work of an accomplished oil painter whose approach is a little different from a great deal of Lakeside art, is on tap for Saturday, July 24, 4 to 6 p.m., at Casa del Sol Inn in Ajijic.

pg11aSandra Goldin, who has been painting for decades, says that her work is generally soft, passionate and sensual, “although not necessarily sexual,” and that even though she retired here four years ago, her paintings are “less local” than many artists. This may be due to the fact that she does many commissioned pieces.

“I do paint flowers sometimes and I did a commissioned painting of Lake Chapala,” Goldin says, explaining that she loves commissions because “they’re more personal and people have beautiful and creative ideas about what they want. And you’re always looking for inspiration.” But often the commissions are to paint subject matter that is not local, such as a cellist, a nude, or a couple embracing.
