No easy wins to be had in LLT’s production of ‘Cake Walk’

Lakeside Little Theatre presents “Cake Walk” by Colleen Curran. Directed by Collette Clavadetscher, this farce is about five unlikely contestants who clash in a Canada Day cake-baking contest, in which each character gets his or her just desserts!

pg20aShow dates are March 25 to April 3; evenings at 7:30 p.m. and matinees at 4 p.m. Both Saturdays and Sundays are matinees.

The cast features Barbara Pruitt, Maloy Murdock, Pamela Johnson, Georgette Richmond, Tracy Foy, Sofia Randall and Glenn Kay.

“Cake Walk” revolves around a small-town baking competition, which is part of a wider Canada Day celebration, held in 1984. The grand prize is a trip to Paris for two. The term “cakewalk” means an easy win. The joke is in the title; it’s not an easy win for anyone. Each character comes to a realization during the baking competition. You’ll have to come to LLT to see who takes the cake in this laugh-out-loud play.

“The hilarious comedy in ‘Cake Walk’ still stands the test of time. Curran can take pride in the fact that her story has that necessary element of truth in it that makes the comedy timeless,” says Mary Alderson in her blog, Entertain This Thought.

Tickets, 300 pesos, can be purchased online at lakesidelittletheatre.com. The LLT box office is open one hour before curtain and Wednesdays and Thursdays, 10 a.m. to noon, during the opening week and the week of the run.

Patrons must wear masks properly at all times in the lobby and auditorium. Those who do not comply will be asked to leave; no refunds will be issued.
