A pairing of paint & bronze

Next week’s exhibition of art at Casa del Sol Inn is one you will not want to miss.

pg12aTwo artists will be sharing the space and their work is independently interesting and yet very complementary. For the next two months, the bronze sculptures of Silvia Murillo will mingle with the acrylic paintings of Alfi Guilera. Both artists hail from Guadalajara, but due to the large art scene in the city, they have not had the good fortune of crossing paths yet. All of that will change next Saturday when this show opens to the public.

Murillo has been sculpting for nine years and has studied with two of Mexico’s great sculptors, Jonas Gutierrez and Juan Mendez. Her work is mainly produced in bronze and she loves the freedom that it gives her to create definition in her sculptures. Mendes encouraged her and she says, “I did not think I was a good enough artist to create sculptures, but he told me I would never know unless I tried. So, I tried.”
